Fire team set for exciting 2020

March 12, 2020

10DP fire management officers have made a great started the year. In conjunction with traditional owners and desert rangers, the team have produced a  seasonal fire calendar for desert regions (above).  The calendar provides information on general trends across the desert country, which can be used in each of the desert areas to start the discussion about variations specific to each desert country.  The calendar can be used for planning highlighting good or bad times to conduct burning activities. If you would like a copy of the calendar contact garethcatt@dss.org.au

The team have also been working on:

Ex-tropical cyclones Blake, Damien and Esther have delivered high rainfall to particular areas, with some of the highest amounts in the Great Sandy Desert and the Tanami Desert.  Rainfall overall has still been fairly patchy so far for 2020, but will hopefully enable some targeted burning trips.

Any other ranger groups/partner organisations who are interested in participating in burning/aerial incendiary training contact Tim Leane (timleane@dss.org.au) or Gareth Catt (garethcatt@dss.org.au).  There are still a few training spots and spare burning weeks available…
